Can you believe it’s prom season already? I love getting the kids ready for prom every year from the dresses to the hair! It’s so much fun! Here are some of my favorite half-up prom hairstyles perfect for the big day!
Braided Half Up
I LOVE this hairstyle! It’s a super cute look that looks great on everyone! To start, give your hair a basic curl with a 1 – 1 ½ inch wand. Then set the curls with hairspray, but not too much! Often times if you use too much hairspray, it can make the curls heavier, and the weight will actually make them flatten. Next, you’ll section off a front piece, comb it back, and flip it back over to gently smooth out. Gather the rest of the hair and create a ‘poof’ to secure with bobby pins in the front. Then, take 2 inches of hair on one side of your head and start to dutch braiding a few times before switching to a regular braid. Make sure you only go a few stitches past the back center of the head before securing with an elastic! You can then pull the braid apart a bit to cover any lines or areas on the head you want to be covered. Then repeat on the other side! Once both sides are complete, cross the braids over each other and bobby pin, tucking the elastics under the braid to hide them and secure with hairspray!
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 3 small hair elastics, 6-8 small bobby pins, finishing spray
Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes

Boho Bubble Braids
I’m always on the hunt for a hairstyle that’s super stylish but easy to do, and the two never seem to go hand in hand. But this boho bubble braid will do the trick! This easy to do braid is intricate and unique and only takes just 3-5 minutes to complete. Grab a curling iron, brush, comb, small clear elastics, silver cups, and hairspray. You can increase or decrease the width of the ‘bubble’ by how much you pull out. The more hair you pull out of the elastic, the bigger the bubble will be. I find 4-8 bubbles on each side looks best!
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, 6 small hair elastics, a couple bobby pins, silver hair cuffs, hairspray or spray wax {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 3-5 Minutes

Aurora Twistback
If you’re looking for some Disney princess type vibes, this is your go-to hairstyle! Like the other braids, start your base by creating loose curls all over, then part your hair down the middle. On one side, grab a 1-inch section of hair and split that into two sections. Start twisting, and bobby pin it back while you do the same for the other side. When you have them both twisted, secure them in the back with an elastic. Then, loosen up the twists by tugging on every other twist elbow so the section ‘pancakes’ out. Repeat as many times as you like until it gets that ‘messy chic’ look. And last, hide the rubber band, take a small strand of hair from the remaining hair behind the elastic, loop it upward over the elastic and down behind the twist. With that same strand, take it around the front of the elastic again and then back behind, securing with a bobby pin. Set with hairspray and flowers if you like (we recommend baby’s breath)!
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 small hair elastic, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 4-6 minutes
