I love this pretty double dutch hairstyle. It is a perfect combo of braids to create an easy DIY hairstyle. This one is perfect for prom, date night, a summer festival or just everyday at school. I would love to see how you would wear this hairstyle! To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHDoubleDutchHalfUp
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-10 minutes
Skill Level: Medium
Step-By-Step Instructions:
- Start by parting your hair on one side.
- On the heavy side pick up a section of hair from about your eyebrow back to your part line.
- Move the rest of your hair over to the other side and clip it away temporarily.
- With your smaller section of hair you will create another part. Start about an inch or so back and go diagonally backward.
- Pick up the front section of the two; twist and clip it out of the way temporarily.
- Now pick up the back piece and begin a dutch braid. (This means alternate crossing the outer pieces under the middle piece. After the first complete stitch you will pick up new hair and add to the outer piece before crossing it under the middle piece.)
- Make sure that you are braiding toward the back of your head. When you run out of new hair to add in, go back and pancake the edges of your braid. Continue braiding a few extra stitches and secure with a small elastic. You braid needs to be long enough to reach the back of your head.
- Release the clip on your front section and repeat steps 6-7 on that hair.
- On the opposite side of your braids, pick up a section of hair (about 2″ down from part line) and begin twisting backward. Add in hair as you twist but only from the top side as you go.
- Once you reach the back your head, hold your twist but go back and soften your twist by pulling the edges a bit. This will give it a full/soft look.
- Now pick up the top half of your hair from the strong side plus your braids, combine with your twist and secure together with an elastic.
- Take out the small elastics from the ends of your braids. Add a second elastic to your ponytail. On the last loop, only pull the hair halfway through to create a loop.
- Take the tail from your loop and twist it around your ponytail elastics. Pull on the edges to give your twist volume and pin in place.
- Once your tail ends are all tucked and pinned, you can twist, adjust & pin your loop to create a pretty bun.
- Finish with hairspray {if desired}.
