Valentine’s Day has passed for another year, but we can wear heart hairstyles all year long! This hairstyle is so cute, it is perfect for a romantic dinner, wedding, or a fun Friday night date!To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHHalfUpHeartBun Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, hair elastics, bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes
Skill Level: Medium-Hard
Step-By-Step Instructions:
- Start by pulling your hair up into a half up ponytail, but leave about and inch down (around the face) on both sides.
- On one side, pick up a section of hair in the front. Divide into 3 pieces and create a regular 3 strand braid. After a few stitches, go back and pancake your braid.
- Once your braid is long enough to reach the back of your head, secure with a bobby pin temporarily.
- Repeat steps 2-3 on the other side of the head.
- Pick up your half up ponytail and flip it up and forward out of the way.
- Bring your two braids back and secure them together under your ponytail with a small elastic.
- Move your ponytail back down. Split the hair in half right above the elastic.
- Pull your ponytail up through the gap you created so it is flipped up. Secure with a clip temporarily.
- On one side, pick up a small piece of hair just under a braid and twist away from your face. Pull the edges of your twist to create volume.
- Take your twist and pull it through and down on the opposite side of the ponytail.
- Secure your twist with a bobby pin underneath the elastic.
- Repeat steps 10-11 on the opposite side.
- Gently pull down on your twists so that they are lower than the braids.
- Release your ponytail and split it into two pieces. Place one section up and out of the way.
- Working with the first side of the ponytail, spray your piece of hair with spray wax or hairspray.
- Create your first heart loop and pin up with a bobby pin.
- Repeat step 16 on the other side.
- Clip your loops down temporarily while you create your ponytail at the bottom of your heart. Secure your ponytail with a small elastic at the center of your head.
- Release your clips on the heart loops. Readjust anywhere needed. Pull on the twists in the center of the heart if needed to cover any elastics or bobby pins.
- Now pick up a small piece of hair from your heart ponytail and wrap it around the elastic. You can either pull the end through the elastic or secure with a bobby pin.
- Finish with hairspray {if desired}.
