We cut Bailey’s hair two months ago, the very same morning she had her wisdom teeth removed. It has been a long time since she had short hair, so she has had fun experimenting on ways to style her hair using braids and hairstyle accents.
Bailey told me earlier this week, “Mom, I’ve got you covered on this week’s tutorial, go ahead and take the weekend off.” I about died! She must have read my mind because I was juggling so much between the kids schedules and work, that I felt like I was drowning! Thank you, Bailey, you did a fantastic job! I think I can retire from this blog now!
She showed me her hair, and I loved it! Since Bailey’s hair is now short, she opted to begin with a base of curls to add some volume. We filmed a tutorial for these curls shortly after we started this blog WAY back in October 2009, and you can find it by clicking here… Flat Iron Curls.
These knot accents are super easy to create, using a simple knot technique that anyone can do. They are also super easy to remove, as well.
When you are bobby pinning, be sure to hook the back part of the strand of hair first, and then slide the bobby pin up underneath of the knot towards the forehead. This will secure the knots in place perfectly.
You know how those simple braided bangs that were all the rage a few years ago, and only take 2 minutes to do in the mornings? This knotted accent is the same, perfectly cute and quick to do! That is what we are all looking for, right?
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 3 small bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 2 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin with hair already curled, with a curling iron or flat iron {you can do this on straight or wavy hair, as well}…
- Part hair on one side, either will work…
- Take a small section of hair from the front of your face, pull it back and tie a simple knot in it {you do not want this super tight, as you want to see the curve of the knot}…
- Using a bobby pin, secure the knotted strand back against the side of the head {hook the back part of the strand of hair first with the bobby pin, and then slide it up underneath the knot towards the forehead}…
- Repeat Steps #3-4 on two more strands, pinning each under the previous knot, giving you a total of three knots…
- Grab a section of loose curly hair from right behind the knots, and pull it over the ends of the knotted strands to hide them…
- Add hairspray {if desired}.

Now that Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, BrooklynAndBailey want to share with you a super cute Pinterest-inspired heart collage, so be sure to click the video below!
can you do more hairstyles like this but for shorter hair
Love the simple and easy accent
My sister has done this look a couple times, and it has turned out super cute! Love it!
My hair wouldn’t look this pretty. I tried doing this and failed miserably but that’s okay because it takes time to learn new things.
My step daughter has short hair, but it’s also really thin! I can usually get most of the hairstyles to work on her. If you have any suggestions on making it more thick, or how to work with it let me know!!
i want to take this hair to dance
What a cute hairstyle! It looks great on you, Bailey:) But how are you supposed to tie a knot with only one strand of hair? Do you split that section in half and then tie it, or do you put that section in a loop around your finger and then pull the end through? Also can you please do a tutorial on how to get flat iron curls without a flat iron or a curling iron or any heat product? Thank you!:)!
I love it! It is soooooo cute! I was looking just this morning so that I could have something to do with my hair before church. I recently got my hair cut and it is about your length. I feel like i cant do ANYTHING with it after it being long for a long time. This really works! Thanks!
Bailey I love your hair!!! Would you mind sharing your cut so that I can get my hair done the same way?
Bailey your short hair is lovely! My hair is just the same. Could you do a video on how you keep your parting like that? I have a lot of trouble getting my parting to stay its whole length (to the back) Also how do you keep the parted hair from falling the way of the back hair? Is it just frequent combing?
(I hope you could follow that :))
Super cute Bailey!! One of my daughter’s has your (now) length hair and is always wanting something fun so this seems easy enough 🙂 Thank you so much – super great job on your tutorial too! xx
Great tutorial – I think it would be a super easy thing to do if you are growing out bangs as well.
Bailey you look so nice with your hair like that, really cute hairstyle
🙂
hi Mindy, i was wondering if you had any suggestions on how to make my sisters let me do their hair. Because they don’t like me doing there hair.
i have the same thing! I just go with it.
