2-in-1 Boxer Braid No-Heat Curls

Time for another no-heat curls tutorial! Today, we’re excited to take part in Suave Professionals’ Style-It-Yourself program by teaching you how to get salon-quality curls at home using no heat!

I do go to the gym in the mornings, so I often want to wear a tight style that is perfect for an active day, but later in the day I want to look great! This 2-in-1 look is perfect for that with cute Boxer Braids for the active part of the day and beautiful no-heat curls later on!  {We tend to use this method for overnight curls, as well}.

To get the braids and curls, all you need is damp hair, curl-defining serum gel, and Boxer Braids. The product helps condition my hair as a serum would, and also help define the curls like a gel would, but doesn’t leave the hair feeling “crunchy” or stiff when I am done.

What I really love is that you can use these curls as a base for any number of hairstyle combinations {updos, buns, twists, French braids, Dutch braids, fishtail braids, pancake braids, accent braids, side braids, etc}.

Items Needed: Rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 hair elastic, Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Curl Defining Gel Serum, hairspray {optional}, silk scarf {optional to cover the hair if sleeping the the braids overnight}.

Time Requirement: 7-10 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin with damp hair, not soaking wet, but not dry either {you can u achieve this by letting hair dry for 30 minutes after showering, or by spritzing hair with a spray bottle}…
  2. Now add in some Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Serum to the hair, I usually use two pumps, one on each side {the product will help condition the hair and help define the curls}.
  3. Next, part the hair down the middle, or just slightly off to one side in the front, and secure one of the sides out of the way…
  4. Begin a French Braid on the free side, make sure to use small sections so that you achieve maximum curls {if you want bigger, more-full curls, simply use bigger sections in your braiding}…
  5. When you reach about 3 inches from the bottom of the braid, secure temporarily with an elastic….
  6. Repeat on the other side.
  7. Now combine the two braids near the nape of the neck, re-separate the new strand into three sections and continue on with a simple braid, securing with your hair elastic…
  8. Allow the braids to air dry while you are at the gym, for several hours, or even overnight…
  9. Undo the braids {you can use a little dry shampoo to refresh the roots if you went to the gym}…
  10. Flip head upside down and gently finger comb the curls to loosen the a little…
  11. Flip head right side up and set your part line {watch for my parting trick in the video, which gives maximum volume}, and add hairspray {if desired}.

  1. I am trying to find a cute hairstyle for my graduation and basically all of these are really pretty, but some are not a style I can do

  2. I love your blog first of all and second, my hair is naturally thick and curly but I want to create curls like these do you think they will work? I just want looser curls without heat, would i have to straighten my hair?

  3. I need hairstyles that are very fast an easy because my blood pressure drops when my arms are up for too long. Which makes me very dizzy. I love the idea of getting curls from the boxer braid, but I could never French braid my own hair. Do you have a “faux” braid that would work. Similar to the faux fishtail braid where you pulled the hair into a simple braid. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Love your videos!

  4. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do more curly hair hair styles!!!! i have the craziest curly hair ever and i have no idea what to do with it! help me, i need to know this!

  5. I would love it if you came to West Virginia! Also, could you please do some more quick and easy DIY tutorials

  6. i know it would be a long way, but me and my friends are super fans and always make sure to catch up on all the videos. could you possibly consider coming to vancouver, canada?

    1. really cool, can you please also do some more diy’s as well as no heat curls. because they are both really easy to do on yourself.
