This hair tutorial is a throw back all the way from my 2002 photo album. I love how easy and classic this hairstyle is. It is a perfect combo of elegance and style! When the girls were little, I used twist backs all the time. This hairstyle uses the same twisting technique. Adding the buns brings it up to date. You could wear this hairstyle every day or for more formal occasions like Prom or Homecoming! To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHTwistbackBuns
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 2 ponytail holders, 10-12 bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 8-10 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-By-Step Instructions:
- Part the hair down the center.
- Pick up a small section of hair from one side in the front and begin twisting. You want to twist back/upward picking up hair as you twist until you reach the nape of the neck.
- Secure with an elastic.
- Repeat twist back on the other side.
- Go back and pull and loosen a bit for a softer look. I pulled at the crown for volume and fullness.
- Pick up one of your ponytails and twist in the same direction as your twist back. Twist up and around to create a bun at the nape of the neck.
- Secure with bobby pins.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Finish with hairspray {if desired}.
