We are so excited for the Holidays! Great food, friends, family and parties! So of course you need some new hairstyles to look amazing at all of those Holiday gatherings! This holiday hairstyle is great for medium hair and long hair!To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHSideSweptFishtail
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, hair elastics, bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-10 minutes
Skill Level: Medium
Step-By-Step Instructions:
- Pick up a small section of hair about an inch back from the front. Divide into to pieces.
- Take a small section of the outside of the back piece, cross it under and add to the front piece.
- Take a small section from the outside of the front piece, cross it under and add to the back piece.
- Now you repeat steps 2 & 3 BUT you will also add new hair in with the small outside sections. (see video) This is called a “french” fishtail. French means you add new hair before crossing under.
- Try to pick up small pieces as close to the braid as possible so that after pancaking you won’t see part lines.
- Once your braid is a 2-3 inches long, stop adding new pieces of hair and continue with a normal fishtail until the braid is long enough to reach the back of your head.
- Go back and pancake your braid for a nice fluffy fishtail!
- Secure your braid with a small elastic.
- Pick up a section of hair at the crown of your head. Slightly twist the hair in the direction away from the braid.
- Pull on the hair at the crown to give it volume and secure with a bobby pin. {or 2 if needed}
- Pick up a small section of hair on the opposite side of the braid, just under your bobby pins.
- Pull this piece of hair up and out of the way temporarily.
- Bring your fishtail back, lay across the bobby pins to cover and pin under the section of hair you pulled out in step 12.
- Let the hair from step 12 down to cover the bobby pin from your braid.
- Sweep your remaining hair to the side. Sweep to the braid side. Place a bobby pin in the back and underneath to keep your sweep in place.
- Pick up the bang section in front that you left out of the braid. Twist the hair backward toward the braid. Pull on the edges to create volume and then secure with a bobby pin under the braid.
- Pick up a section of hair just behind the ear. Divide into three pieces and create a regular braid all the way down. Braid loose and pancake. Secure with a small elastic.
- Add hairspray {if desired}.
