Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 6 small hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-10 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-By-Step Instructions:
- Part your hair down the middle. Pick up a small section of hair in the front of one side. Divide into three pieces and begin a dutch french braid. (Try to keep braid close to the ear)
- A dutch french braid is where you take one outside strand, cross under the middle strand. Now take the opposite outside strand and cross under the middle strand. Continue to take the outer strand and now add new pieces of hair and cross under the middle strand. (see video for more instruction)
- You will only add new hair for about 3-4 stitches. Pancake your braid as you go.
- After about 3-4 stitches of dutch french, finish with a regular three strand the remainder of the way down. Pancake and secure with a small elastic.
- Repeat steps 2-4 on the other side.
- Now pick up about 1/3 of the remaining hair and secure with an elastic at the crown on the head.
- Go back and pull on the hair going into the ponytail to add a little volume.
- Lift the first ponytail up and out of the way. Create another ponytail just under the first ponytail.
- Release the top ponytail and divide into two pieces.
- Lift ponytail number two up and in between the two pieces of ponytail number one.
- Secure the two pieces of ponytail number one (with a small elastic) just under ponytail number two.
- Pick up the remaining hair and add to the two sections from ponytail number one and secure with a small elastic.
- Continue splitting the top ponytail, lift the bottom ponytail up, and bring top ponytail pieces under and secure with small elastic. (see video for clarification)
- After every couple of ponytails, go back and pull on the edges of your bubbles to add more volume.
- When you finish your pull-thru braid, pick up one of the braids from the front and bring to the back. Lay it above your pull-thru and secure with bobby pins on the opposite side of the ponytail.
- Pick up the second from braid, bring back and lay across the first braid and pin down with bobby pins. You should have an “X” laying on top of your pull thru braid.
- Take the ends of your dutch braids and roll them up. Tuck under your pull thru braid and secure the edges with bobby pins.
- Add hairspray and any adjustments as needed.
