Sweetheart Braid Combo

Back view of a young girl modeling "Sweetheart Braid Combo" hairstyle

It is the week of LOVE.  If you are looking for a stylish heart hairstyle you cam to the right place.  Wearing a heart hairstyle this time of year is my girls favorite part of the holiday!  Just kidding… it’s the second favorite. Chocolate will always win out.  Today we are sharing the Sweetheart Braid Combo.   To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHSweetheartCombo

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes

Skill Level: medium

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Part the hair beginning on the right front side and go all the way back diagonally to the opposite side (left)behind the ear.
  2. Next you will create the heart shape part line.  As you can see in the photo above, start about the crown area and create a heart shape at the back of the head.
  3. You should have three sections of hair at this point.  Two in front and your heart shape section at the back/side.  Secure your heart hair with an elastic to hold out of the way for now.  Secure one front section to hold out of the way for now.
  4. Start on one front section.  Pick up a tiny section of hair at the crown.  Begin a lace french braid.  This means you only pick up new hair on one side.  For this hairstyle you will pick up new hair from the front side.
  5. When you run out of new hair to add in, continue with a regular three strand braid to the bottom of the hair and secure with an elastic.
  6. Repeat steps 4-5 on the other front side of the hair.
  7. Take out the elastic from your heart section in the back.
  8. Pick up a small section at the top and begin a regular french braid.  You are going to braid in a diagonal direction starting at the top left and ending at the bottom right of the heart shape.
  9. When you have braided down a few stitches, pull one of your front braids back and see if you can add it into your braid.  Essentially, you want to add the two front braids into your heart french braid when you reach the level they will lay smoothly.
  10. Continue your french braid all the way down to the end of the hair.  This is one option for this hairstyle.
  11. A second option is as shown in the photos.  Secure all of the hair at the base of the heart or nape of the neck.  Twist hair into a bun and secure with bobby pins.
  12. Finish with hairspray {if desired}.
