It’s that time of year again, where we start seeing heart hairstyles everywhere! Just take a look at your Instagram explore feed! With Valentine’s Day just a few days away, not every girl is OK with wearing a huge heart braid on her head… especially older teenagers like my twins!
Every year, we try hard to come up with at least one hairstyle that is subtle enough, yet still festive for the Valentin’s holiday. Today’s Heart Ponytail tutorial is one that is sleek enough, with a subtle heart accent, that older girls and women will wear it and love it.

It only takes about 3 minutes to create this hairstyle, very little time at all, and I guarantee you will get compliments all day long!
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, pomade or spray wax, 1 ponytail holder, 1-2 small bobby pins, 2 small clear hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 3 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by pulling the hair into a high ponytail…
- Secure with a ponytail holder {I added two holders because Brooklyn’s hair is thick and it helps give the ponytail more lift}…
- I pulled back on the hair on top, to give more volume, and you may also wish to pull out a strand on either side of the face to frame the style…
- Take a thin section of hair from the underside of the ponytail, and wrap it around the elastics to hide them, and secure with 1-2 small bobby pins…
- Now move down the ponytail about 3-4 inches and add a clear elastic…
- Grab another thin section of hair {about the thickness of a pencil} from the underside of the ponytail…
- Divide the rest of the ponytail into two even sections and pull the small section upward in between them {the small section should now be coming from underneath of the ponytail and up through the middle}…
- Take the small section, divide it into two even sections, add some spray wax or pomade to each strand, and then twist them upward and outward 1-2 times {this helps in creating the heart shape}…
- Now, bring the ends back together again and join them with the rest of the ponytail using another clear elastic…
- Gently pull on the twisted loops to form your very pretty, perfect heart shape accent…
- Add hairspray {if desired}.
So, what are your family traditions for Valentine’s Day? I love hearing your ideas. Please leave a comment below!
Shaun gets up early every Februrary 14th to make us pink heart pancakes with bacon, eggs, strawberries, and strawberry milk. Shaun and I then send flowers to the girls during school. It’s funny, because all their friends end up thinking they have a secret admirer… the kids love it!
Happy Hairstyling!
You’ll all get a kick out of the video Brooklyn and Kamri filmed one day when Bailey was away cheering for a game. It’s called The Smoothie Challenge, where you draw from among 10 great smoothie ingredients, and 10 disgusting ingredients, blend them, and drink it! You can find the video on BrooklynAndBailey’s YouTube channel, or simply click below!
