I know it’s been a few years since we last given you a new 4th of July Hairstyle! It’s certainly time for another one, and it is super cute!
Really, this 3-Minute Scarf Braid can be adapted to any holiday, or school Spirit Day, etc, simply by changing up the colors in the scarf!
To complete this braid, all you need to know is how to create a simple French Braid. The trick is learning how to incorporate the scarf into the braid by making it part of two of the strands. Don’t worry, I show you exactly how to do this in the video!
If you would like to see your own photo recreations of this hairstyle featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHScarfBraid
The hairstyle is for women and girls of all ages, and particularly helpful for those with thin hair {since the scarf adds volume to the braid}. This style can also be done as a Dutch Braid, so be creative!
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 small hair elastics, 1 sheer scarf {cut down to a 6-8 inch strip}, and hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 3 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Video Tutorial:
- Begin with dry, clean hair…
- Make sure your chose scarf is cut down to a 6-8 inch strip, and then fold your scarf in half so that you can identify where the exact middle is…
- Lift a medium size section of hair from the top of the head, and lay the scarf at the base under this section…
- You should now have three sections to work with {scarf end, hair section, and 2nd scarf end}…
- You’ll now begin a French Braid using the scarf and hair, by picking up hair from the outside of the head on the right and adding it into the right-most scarf strand…
- Cross this section over the middle section so this now becomes your middle strand…
- And then pick up hair from the outside of the head on the left and add it to the left-most scarf section…
- Cross this section over the middle section so this now becomes your middle strand…
- Continue Steps #5-8, adding hair into the outside sections and switching them to the middle, until you reach the base of the head..
- When you run out of hair to add in from the outside, continue on with a simple three-strand braid, and secure with an elastic…
- Then use the remaining tails of the scarf to tie around the base of the braid to hide the elastic…
- OPTIONALLY: you can continue in a braid and then roll the hair up and tuck it under itself by the nape of the neck {this will depend on the thickness hair, thickness of the scarf, the length of hair}.
- Add hairspray {if desired}.
