Today we will show you another short hairstyle tutorial, teaching you how to create Double-Flip Accents that can be used in any number of hairstyle combos. We’ve been doing these for years, particularly across the front of the head as a way to keep bangs/fringe out of our eyes.
We’ve shown you how to create corner flip-unders on Paisley last year, but now we are doubling up this year to give you a different, better integrated look. We used simple waves, created with a deep-V waver as the base in Rylan’s hair, before we begin styling.
We are showing only how to create the accents today, in an across the front of the head “headband” style. After creating this look, you can also tie the remaining hair into a high ponytail, or divide it the back and create two messy buns. Each would be equally as cute! Because of how tight these sit, using flip-unders accents are perfect for girls in sports such as cheer, dance, gymnastics, softball, basketball, etc.

Rylan, who often doesn’t want to film tutorials, volunteered to be our model today! Be sure to give this video a “Thumbs Up” just for that! {We also hope you enjoy the little baby clip of her at the end!}
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 8 small hair elastics, topsy tail tool, 1 large alligator clip, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by parting the hair, from the middle-front back to just a few inches in front of the crown, and then again from ear to ear…
- Secure one parted side out of the way with your alligator clip…
- Take the other parted side, and divide it into 4 equal square sections, going from the front of the face toward the back of the head…
- Using small elastics, create a mini ponytail in the middle of each section, ensuring that you don’t secure them too tightly {this will still allow for a flip in the next step}…
- Now using a Topsy Tail Tool, thread it under the first elastic, straight through the first front ponytail base…
- Thread the loose ponytail down through the loop in the Topsy Tail Tool, and then gently pull on the pointed end of the tool until the ponytail flips under through itself {if you don’t have a topsy tail tool, you can always simply use your fingers and create a small hole and flip the ponytail through yourself}…
- Repeat this same process on the second ponytail {right behind the first one}, however, this time also tuck the first tail upwards through the loop before pulling…
- As you pull the topsy tail backwards, it will flip the second ponytail under AND also pull the first tail through, effectively linking the two flip-unders…
- Repeat Steps #5-8 on the remaining two sections of this side.
- Repeat Steps #3-9 on the other side of the head.
- Add hairspray {if desired}.

I really love <3!! I wouldn't do this on myself since I'm 15 yrs old, and it's kind of a little girl hairstyle, but it's still super cute! Also could y'all consider making your app available on Android devices? Because I have a Galaxy (phone) and a Kindle Fire (tablet). But I would love to have the app on them!! Sadly I don't have any Apple devices.
xx,
Mellisa Anne
