Last week, our neighborhood went without electricity and heat for just over two days, after an awful ice storm here in Dallas, with temperatures below freezing! Yes, we were super cold, but did have a few fireplaces going to provide heat.
That being said, there wasn’t any way to shower, or curl my hair without getting sick, so I instead exclusively relied on hair buns. This bun style uses a French-Up technique, which is an upside down French braid, and it has been a very popular style during 2013. We had shown this style briefly in a video two years ago, but never filmed a full tutorial for it. It is basically an Upside-Down French Braid into a Bun!I love this French-Up High Bun, and since it was the style I wore for those two freezing days with out electricity, we felt it appropriate to show you how to recreate it!
In the video, I am using a hair bun tool called the Wrap-Up that I have been carrying around in my purse for months. {You can find one at the the link above, and by using the coupon code of Merry1230, you will receive 20% off your purchase until Dec 30th, 2013.}
Also, if you are careful CHG tutorial viewers, you will notice that this is the exact same tool that Brooklyn used on me in the DisneySide video we posted a few months ago! You can see the video here.
Enjoy!
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 hair band, hairspray and bow accessory {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5 minutes
Skill Level: Medium
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by separating hair from just above one ear to just above the other ear, and secure the front section out of the way…
- Now flip head upside down {you can also lay over the end of the couch or end of abed to be more comfortable in braiding}…
- Pick up a section near the base of the neck and and begin braiding down a regular French braid {pick up pieces of hair and add them in along the way, continuing to braid towards the top of your head}…
- Once you run out of hair to add in, continue with a simple braid and secure with a hair elastic…
- Now tip head back up {and catch a breath, letting the blood flow normally for a minute}…
- Next, gather and smooth the front section of your year and combine it with the braid into a high ponytail…
- Then create a bun by using a wrap up, bun maker, sock bun, or simply using your hair {I love the wrap up as it makes doing a bun quick and easy, and it looks great every time}…
- Add in a few bobby pins, as needed,to secure the bun and tuck any hair whispies…
- Add hair accessory and hairspray {as desired}.

I’ve always loved this and never tried it but I need to try this very soon
I will try this asap ❤
To be honest, these hair styles blow. Their extremely hard and that 5-10 minutes thing, it’s a scam. It would probably take about 1-2 painful hours of frustration and looking at your website saying, “How did that slacker get it”? Be real. It really took you an hour, a painful one of getting your hair pulled straight out of your skull.P.S The ‘fishtail’ is a big honking sack of baloney. Just do a braid.
Uh… thanks for listening I guess. I got the anger out of when i was getting my hair pulled out. Don’t take any of the seriously. I am not even 10. I guess the pain in my hair went to my head. P.S. I like the logo of your website! (:
I didn’t mean slacker. I meant kid with distinct face, in a good way. SPARE ME!
That looks great! I will give it a try! Can you also do this with dutch braid?
Kisses from Greece!
For some reason I can’t get a neat braid on the back of my head:( I dont think I’m holding the hair right when my head is upside-down haha -does that make sesne? lol
Hugs from England xx
