Waterfall Twist Combo

One of the best things about braiding hair, is that once you understand the basics, you can create all kinds of combination hairstyles!  Today I will teach you this beautiful Waterfall Twist Combo, using both a waterfall twist and a standard dutch braid.

Waterfall Twist Combo

My little Rylan who turns 11 this month volunteered to be my model.  I love how this braid looks very intricate, when really it is just two simple braiding techniques combined!

This hairstyle can be worn by women and girls of all ages, dressed up or down.

Items Needed: brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 small hair elastic, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement:  5-7 minutes

Skill Level:  Medium

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Part the hair on one side.  Pick up a small piece of hair next to the temple and begin a waterfall twist.  You will work back and then diagonal, finishing at the opposite side of the head about ear level.
  2. Secure your twist with a small elastic.
  3. Take the first few strands that you pulled through the waterfall twist and flip them over and out of the way.  (See video for clarification)
  4. Go back to the front of the head where you started your waterfall twist and pick up another small piece of hair just under your waterfall twist.
  5. Begin a dutch braid.  When adding new hair on the top of the braid, use the strands from the waterfall twist.  When adding new hair on the bottom of the braid, use the normal hair.  (see video for clarification)
  6. Continue your dutch braid all the way around the back of the head as you did the waterfall.
  7. When you reach the last section (at the ear), add the end of your waterfall twist into your braid, finishing with a three strand braid to the end of the hair length.
  8. Secure your braid with a small elastic.
  9. I like to finish by pancaking & fluffing the braid.  This will give your braid a bigger, fuller look.
