Today, Katie is going to show you how to create a pretty half-up hairstyle. Half-up hairstyles are so beautiful and girls love them! We love them because we can keep hair out of our face while still having hair down. The Flower Half-up is perfect for girls or women of any age with medium or long hair. This half-up would be great to add to your Boho/Festival list. To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHFlowerHalfUpItems Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 6-7 small hair elastics, 9-10 bobby pins, and hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-10 minutes
Skill Level: Medium
Step-By-Step Instructions:
- For added texture, I added curl to the hair before starting. This helps give a softness as well as fullness to the hair.
- Pick up the top section of your hair and pull to the back. Part line should be a about 2″ above the ear. Leave out little wispy’s in the front around the face if desired.
- Comb or brush the hair to smooth. Secure with an elastic at the back of the head.
- Take a small section of your ponytail and wrap around your elastic a couple of times and pin underneath. This is called a hair wrapped ponytail.
- Pick up a small section of hair below your part line, on each side of the head. ( Again, I have left out wispy’s in the front.) Take the two sections backward and secure them together with a small elastic.
- Flip your ponytail (the one you just made) up and and over itself twice. This will give your strands a twisted effect. Now pull on the edges of your twists a bit to give a full/fluffy look.
- Repeat steps 5&6 two more times just below your second ponytail.
- With all three of your small twist-back ponytails, create a normal three strand braid all the way down. Go back and pancake one side. Secure with a small elastic. (you want two braids with the same side pancaked, and one braid with the opposite side pancaked.)
- Pick up one of your braids, starting at the bottom, roll the braid around until you reach the top. Secure your flower with bobby pins.
- Repeat making two more flowers and secure with bobby pins.
- Finish with hairspray. {if desired}
