Today were sharing a simple and very elegant undo. It’s Homecoming season so hopefully this gives you another option to consider this year. We call it the Fancy Fishtail Updo! This is one I know you will love as it is so simple! I like to wear it with a pair of jeans or wear it with something as fancy as Homecoming!
To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHFancyFishtailItems Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, small hair elastics, bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
- Starting on one side of your hair, pick up a small piece in the front.
- Divide your section in two pieces and being a dutch fishtail braid. This is done by taking a sliver from the outside of the first section and pass under to the second section. Pick up another sliver from the outside of the second section and pass under to the first section. In the next stitch you will add in new hair each time you pass under. (see video for details) Repeat this process until you reach your ear.
- When you reach your ear, stop picking up new hair and finish with a normal fishtail all the way down.
- Before you tie off with an elastic, pull the edges of your braid. You want to create a nice fluffy fishtail. Then secure with a small elastic.
- Repeat your dutch fishtail braid on the other side of your head. (leave out a small bang piece or wisps if desired)
- Take the hair left outside the braids and pull back into a low messy bun. Secure with bobby pins.
- Now take one fishtail braid and drape it back and just on top of your messy bun. Secure with bobby pins.
- Place fishtail #2 back and secure with bobby pins. (You have essentially created an X with your fishtail braids).
- If you left out any bangs or wisps, add a little curl with a 1″ wand.
- Finish with hairspray {if desired}.
